Our Story

Karwan is a tribute to the heritage and natural character of an oasis traditional landscape. Conceived by Meryanne, it sits within a lush, green oasis, where the fertile soil, restored organically by Gary, allows vegetation to flourish in abundance, creating a vibrant, almost jungle-like setting.

The site preserves a rare adobe house, a gem of traditional Moroccan architecture. When Meryanne first arrived in Marrakech in 1985, the surrounding palm grove consisted of scattered hamlets, adobe structures, and open countryside dotted with sheep. Over the years, as land values rose, many of these properties were sold and replaced with concrete construction, making original earth-built structures increasingly rare. Preserving this adobe gem was central to her vision for the space.

Tents were chosen as the natural solution for Karwan. They echo the nomadic lifestyle of the region and honor the cultural heritage of Morocco while allowing the land’s character to remain intact. The arrangement of the tents around the adobe house creates a dialogue between past and present, blending history with comfort and practicality.

Karwan is more than a collection of structures; it is a living reminder of traditional Moroccan architecture and nomadic life, carefully designed to integrate with the lush environment, offering a serene, authentic, and timeless experience at the heart of Jnane Tamsna.

“We never imagined that so close to the city’s vibrant buzz, we could celebrate our tenth anniversary in such a serene oasis of beauty. Over the weekend, friends joined us for unforgettable evenings that felt both intimate and effortlessly glamorous. Jnane Karwan is truly a gem. The staff were attentive, gracious, and discreet — present without ever intruding. The proximity of Jnane Tamsna elevated the experience even further, adding another dimension of elegance to an already blissful stay.

We will most certainly return...”
